Art is not just what I do, it’s what I love.
I constantly push myself to learn and create on my own time. Here are some snippets of my efforts.
Sheriff of Nottingham
For this project, I grabbed a sculpt from a friend of mine who is a very talented modeler. I UVed it in Maya and textured it in Substance Painter. I have been wanting to learn Blender, so I challenged myself to do the shading and rendering in it.
Viking Cabin
For a long time, I have been wanting to learn more about the game pipeline. I grabbed a piece of concept art online and made a low poly model of it. Apparently, there are different techniques for painting game textures. I decided to only create diffuse maps, so all my shading and specularity are painted into the diffuse. It was a lot of fun painting that level of depth in my maps. I modeled this in Blender and painted it in Substance Painter. I also created the wood panels as a tiling map in Photoshop.
Stitch
I have always loved modeling. In fact, it was what I originally wanted to do, but I ended up in surfacing (which I ended up loving, so it was a win-win). Character sculpts are something I particularly enjoy, so I tried my hand at a sculpt of Stich in Zbrush. It was quite the process, and I learned a lot about how I will approach my next sculpts.
Couch (in progress)
This is another project to focus on the gaming pipeline. I modeled this in Blender based off a concept art I found online. I modeled it so that it I could export a high poly version for ZBrush to sculpt normal maps that I could use on the unsmoothed model. Eventually I will paint this in Substance.
Smart Car
Before landing my first job in the film industry, I worked in forensic animation. My job was mostly to model and texture. To save time and money, we would often buy car models off of Turbosquid and adjust them to our needs. Meaning if we needed a 1997 Honda Civic but we could only find a year 2001 to buy, I would have to use the ‘97 as my base mesh and modify it. It was during that time that I found myself inspired to model a car from scratch. This model was done in 3DS Max.
Skid Steer
Also during my time doing forensic animation, we worked on a lot of cases involving construction equipment. I modeled and textured this Daewoo ski steer for a case.
Antique Phone
I love the style of antique items. I did this just for fun because I thought the model would be fun and the surfacing also had a lot of possibility. I will eventually go back and surface this.
Sword
In my efforts of trying to learn Blender, I wanted to create something simple to take from start to finish. This sword was modeled, shaded and rendered in Blender and painted in Substance Painter.
Cave Knocker
The series “The Spiderwick Chronicles” came out when I was in college, and I was obsessed with the art. At that time, I modeled one of the characters named the cave knocker. This a project I want to go back to and bring up to date with the knowledge and experience I have gained over the years.
Train
This was another project I did in the early years of my 3D journey. I would like to also go back to this one and update the model as well as surface it.
